FAQs

Is Cosmetic Surgery Right for Me?

Your initial consultation will help you decide if cosmetic surgery is for you. Choosing cosmetic surgery is a decision you should make after consultation with a plastic surgeon. Many physical features can be successfully altered through cosmetic techniques; others cannot. Dr. Legere will help you understand what you can realistically expect if you choose a cosmetic procedure.

What Can I Expect From the Initial Consultation?

In addition to discussing what you want to change about your appearance and the best procedure to accomplish those results, your initial consultation will also include a detailed review of your medical history.

As a potential cosmetic surgery patient, you should understand the procedure, be realistic about your goals and expectations, and be motivated primarily to please yourself. In addition, you need to be willing to tolerate unavoidable inconveniences such as restrictions in activities during your healing time and to temporarily refrain from smoking and medications that impede healing. At Summit Plastic Surgery, cosmetic surgery patients receive the finest care, beginning with full education for your unique circumstance and continuing through to complete satisfaction with the surgery.

How Do I Choose a Qualified Plastic Surgeon?

Today, many types of doctors perform plastic surgery procedures and may even refer to themselves as plastic or cosmetic surgeons. Unfortunately, not all of them share the same degree of training and experience in the specialty. It is important to be careful in choosing your surgeon.

Board Certification in plastic surgery is the only accepted form of accreditation the medical profession offers to evaluate the competence and quality of a plastic surgeon. The American Board of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada are the only boards recognized by the American Board of Medical Specialties to certify plastic surgeons. Dr. Legere is a Board-Certified Plastic Surgeon.

By understanding all the tissues of the body – how they grow, age and respond to injury and healing – plastic surgeons are able to repair, reshape, redefine and rejuvenate. After years of formal education, specialized training and surgical residencies, surgeons take extremely rigorous written and oral examinations. In plastic surgery, this process includes an outside review of the quality of the surgeon’s results. If successful, and only when successful in fulfilling these criteria, does the individual have the right to refer to themselves as a “Board-Certified” plastic surgeon.

In addition, personal chemistry is very important. Choose a surgeon with whom you are comfortable and who listens closely to what you want.

What Will It Cost?

As a general rule, there is not a universal cost for a particular procedure. Many procedures performed today are customized for each patient, so there can be several variables for each patient. Where the procedure is performed– an outpatient surgery facility or the hospital – will also have different costs. During your consultation, you will be provided with specific costs for your procedure.

What Do I Need To Do To Prepare For Surgery?

Do not eat or drink any food or liquid after midnight the night before your surgery, unless given specific directions otherwise. A nurse or Dr. Legere will tell you which medications to take, if any, with a little water.

Failure to follow eating and drinking restrictions could increase the risk of complications and lead to cancellation of your surgery.

To reduce bacteria on your skin:
  1. Bathe or shower before arriving.
  2. Do not apply lotion.
  3. Do not shave your surgical site at home prior to surgery, unless instructed to do so.
  4. Do not wear makeup, jewelry (including body piercings), watches, earrings, or rings — if you refuse to remove body piercings, there is a possibility that your surgery may be cancelled.
